Porcelain Inlays

A porcelain inlay is like a filling that is made outside of the mouth and bonded into a cavity in the tooth to give a very strong, cosmetically superior restoration. Inlays are made in a similar way to a crown or a veneer. An impression must be taken of the prepared tooth, and sent to a laboratory where it is fabricated.

Inlays are more conservative than crowns, as less sound tooth structure is removed, yet much stronger than fillings, as they are made from ceramic. We generally use pressed ceramics at the clinic, for our inlays.

This gives a really natural appearance, at the same time as being extremely strong and durable. Porcelain inlays are a really good option for restoring a tooth when a filling would be too large, yet a crown would be too destructive.
